EFTPS Enrollment Guide Preparing for 2026
by Demi Vinke, CPA, Larson Gross
Starting on January 1, 2026, all payments to the IRS will be required to be made electronically. For businesses, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) tax payment service is provided by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
- Enroll online at www.eftps.gov. You will need:
- Business Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- Banking account number and routing number (must be a US bank)
- Address and name of business as they appear on IRS tax document
- Wait for PIN to arrive in the mail (about 7 business days)
- Once PIN is received, go to www.eftps.gov and click “Log In”. Before logging in, initial registration with ID.me or Login.gov will be needed.
Register and/or authenticate with ID.me or Login.gov
|
For ID.me, if a US based phone number is not available, then a video call with identity documentation will need to be set up. The documentation used will include a passport, government issued ID & a secondary document such as a bank statement and these items will need to be uploaded as part of a video call with an agent to confirm your identity. – Click on “Need a Password” – Enter entity EIN & PIN – Verify banking info or EFTPS enrollment number (located on PIN letter) and select “Next“ – Create new internet password |
4. Make your payment – choose tax type Form 8813 – Partnership Withholding Tax (Sec. 1446)
To Make a Payment
- Select Make a Payment
- Select Federal Tax Payment
- Select Business as taxpayer typer
- Choose tax form > Form 8813 – Partnership Withholding Tax (Sec. 1446)
- Select appropriate tax quarter and tax year the payment is being made for
- Enter payment amount
5. Save a copy of the Payment Confirmation page as a receipt and provide to Larson Gross.
Note – While the EFTPS payment satisfies the tax payment required with Form 8813, it does not fulfill the filing requirement. Form 8813 must still be printed and mailed to the IRS.”
